English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
ESOL courses are designed for people whose first language is not English. At Westminster Adult Education Service, we have excellent facilities and provision for anyone who wants to improve their English skills.
What do we offer?
- The opportunity to develop your speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and study skills
- ESOL for citizenship classes
- English for work
- Literacy classes, including some for students who are not literate in their first language
- A Skills for Life qualification at the end of the course covering reading, writing, listening and speaking

Community venues throughout Westminster, where we offer classes for students who prefer an English course in a small centre close to their own home. Some of these classes are for women or men only and most offer childcare
What will it cost?
ESOL courses are free for many learners. Such learners include:
- Refugees
- Asylum seekers who have not received a Home Office decision after 6 months of making their application
- Students in receipt of means tested benefits such as Unemployment Benefit, Child Tax Allowance, Council Tax Benefit, etc
- Students studying at Basic Beginner (Pre-Entry) level
Learners who are not eligible for free classes will have to pay fees. Information about fee levels will be given to you when you enquire about courses.
How do I start?
- You must take an initial assessment before joining a class.
