Do you have a natural talent for make-up? Have you ever wanted to extend you hair styling skills into a career?
Our Beginners courses offer you a thorough introduction to make-up skills, special effects make-up, prosthetics make-up, hairstyling, face painting and airbrushing with cosmetics. You can then progress on to a level 2 or 3 course which can lead to university or straight into employment. We have a one year full-time or two year part-time course which develops practical skills in a wide range of specialist make-up subjects including body painting, TV and film make-up and wig making - the BTEC National Certificate in Media Make-up.
WAES offers the City & Guilds VRQ Diploma in Hairdressing which runs for one year and teaches the core skills and techniques needed to become a great hairdresser.
All our tutors are working make-up artists and hairdressers, up-to-date with products and techniques. Learners from WAES have gone on to work as make-up designers on feature films, regularly work as freelance make-up artists and have started their own successful businesses.
Work experience opportunities arise at intervals during the year and are a good way to expand a learners’ experience and portfolio. During 2007 and 2008 twelve WAES special effects learners provided the make-up on the feature film Doomsday (starring Bob Hoskins and Malcolm McDowell), others worked for The Royal Ballet School and others provided face painting skills for Westminster Council. There is also a strong collaboration between the photographic and video departments who often require make-up artists for their own work.
