WAES main centre at Moxon Street
The LSC has announced that it can go ahead with just 13 of the 144 building schemes across the country it originally approved. Only two colleges in the Greater London area have been given permission to go ahead.
This announcement does not affect the new WAES centre in Pimlico, which continues to progress and is expected to open on schedule in September 2010.
The project to provide a new purpose-built main centre at Moxon Street is now under serious threat although the City Council and WAES are very actively seeking ways to keep it in motion.
Councillor Ed Argar, the Cabinet Member for Adults and Community Services, has written to Kevin Brennan, MP, Minister of State at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, stating the Council’s disappointment, and its continuing support for the project. He has requested an urgent meeting with the Minister to discuss this decision and to request a review of it.
The Service’s case for improved accommodation remains a strong one and WAES and the City Council remain committed to pursuing this aim. There are several possibilities being actively considered and I will keep you advised as things develop.
