Children in Need 2010

Students from the LDD department spent the week of Children in Need raising money in a number of ways. The idea was to make a department-wide effort to raise awareness of the importance of charity fund-raising, whilst developing our social skills and, most importantly, having fun. We wanted to make a positive contribution to a deserving cause as well as providing our students with a chance to show their own skills and products.

Monday: Our Life Skills students spent the day baking biscuits and cup-cakes for sale around the college.

Tuesday: Numeracy and Multimedia students decorated and sold the cakes around the college. We fed some very happy customers!

Wednesday: Our Keep Fit students took part in a Sponsored Skip, Ball Catch and Step. Our aim was to reach a total of 500 skips, catches and steps but, thanks in part to the involvement of our Using Your Learning class, we managed a grand total of 1377 repetitions!

Thursday: Art and Projects students worked hard all day making Christmas cards and Gift Tags which were then sold around the college.

Friday: To celebrate Children in Need itself, staff came in dressed in spots and donated money for this privilege. Drama students also got involved by paying to have their faces painted with spots.

Special mention must go to Manjeet Bhambra who raised a further £60 outside of college and Rose Viette who brought in £10.05 of further donations. Both of these students have shown an excellent understanding of the importance of the local community in fund-raising activities. We would also like to thank our PIP students who raised another £20.

Overall we are delighted with the positive contribution the LDD department has made to this year’s Children in Need appeal. We raised a total of £226.10!

Well done everyone!
