Earn and learn in Westminster with a WAES apprenticeship

An apprenticeship is both a work and learning based qualification designed to increase your skills and knowledge. As an apprentice, you will work for a real employer, earn a real salary and gain a nationally-recognised qualification.

Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) offers various apprenticeship routes that address the skills needed for your current and future job prospects. You will work towards valuable Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) qualifications, which will be a certificated City & Guilds, OCR, NCFE or CACHE, along with the appropriate functional skills.

WAES have successfully been delivering apprenticeship programmes for over 10 years. We undertake the recruitment of new apprenticeships with Westminster City Council (WCC). If you are a Westminster resident and you apply for an apprenticeship, then you are automatically guaranteed an interview.

The benefits of an apprenticeship

  • Earn a working salary while you learn
  • Gain a recognised qualification
  • Receive focused training and learn job-specific skills
  • Benefit from real-world work experience and improve your employability

WAES offers Apprenticeships Framework and Standards in the following levels

Apprenticeships are real jobs with real employers, so all apprentices earn a salary and qualify for holidays and other staff benefits. You will be paid at least the minimum apprenticeship wage with many employers (like WCC) paying significantly more.

Apprentices are required to work a minimum of 30 hours a week (maximum 40 hours) and will take at least one year to complete. The length of time you will need to complete your qualifications depends on the type and level of apprenticeship, but will usually be at least 12 months and can be up to 4years. You can apply for the level that suits your current skills and qualifications.

Your employer will train and support you on a day to day basis, and training for your qualification will be delivered by WAES, either in your workplace or at one of our training centres.

The training WAES provides is based around equipping you with the skills necessary to develop and build a career in your chosen field, as well as meeting the needs of your apprenticeship role effectively.
