What is the course about?
This is a first stage teaching qualification which has a teaching/training practice requirement and is designed for those1. not currently in a teaching or training role – achievement of the qualification doesn’t require practice other than microteaching unless units from the learning and development suite of qualifications are selected 2. currently teaching and training (including those who have just begun teaching and training) - although the qualification does not require practice other than microteaching (unless units from the learning and development suite of qualifications are selected), opportunities may be made available to observe and provide feedback on a trainee teacher's practice 3. currently working as Assessors who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
You will need to provide certificates for Maths and English at level 2, or be working towards them and complete before the end of the course. If you do not already hold level 2 qualifications in Maths and English, you will need to complete initial assessments, and reach level 2 during these to enrol on the course. You must be over 19 to enrol on this course.An initial assessment of ICT will also be required.
What topics does the course cover?
The qualification consists of 12 credits; 3 from a mandatory unit, and 9 from optional units. The mandatory unit is: Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will receive classroom time and will be expected to complete some study online in your own time. You will be assessed using a range of methods such as: portfolio work, assignments, professional discussions, presentations, practical observations.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
After successful completion of this qualification, and Level 2 in Maths and English, you will be qualified to deliver education and training to learners in a post-compulsory education setting, such as a college, or deliver content on an apprenticeship.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
You can progress onto a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, or a degree in education and training.
