This combined beginners IT course has been designed to give you practical skills in using Information Technology that will enable you to carry out tasks in a range of home and work based environments. It is ideally suited to those who have limited experience in using ICT or are just starting out

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
Although there are no formal entry requirements and the course is levelled at Entry 2/3 (which is suitable for beginners) you should be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse and have some experience using a PC, laptop or tablet . You will also need to have reasonable levels of English, for ESOL learners, we must ask for ESOL at level 1 or above. You may be asked to sit an initial assessment to determine whether this course is the best level for you.
What topics does the course cover?
Areas covered on the course include - Displaying information Using ICT, Using ICT to find Information and Communicating Information using ICT and Internet Safety. During the course you will become familiar with the more common Microsoft Office products *Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
How will I be taught and assessed?
This course is classroom based with an emphasis on practical hands on skills. You will receive constant tutor feedback using an Individual Learning Plan, Microsoft Teams and a dedicated online learning system. Additional practice outside of the classroom is essential as there will be assignments which need to be completed. At the end of the course, there will be a controlled assessment
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
The course is free to those in receipt of applicable benefits or on low income. You will need to provide an A4 folder and any stationary required. Having access to a desktop or laptop computer at home is essential and will aid understanding. *Please note if no computer is available at home we strongly recommend you make good use of our Learning Resource Centres at Lisson Grove and Pimlico or your local library.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
Successful learners will gain an Entry Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Functional Skills ICT and will have gained a better understanding of using IT systems for both home and work.
