What is the course about?
This is a first stage teaching qualification which has a teaching/training practice requirement and is designed for those wishing to teaching in the further education / skills sector. It is specifically aimed at: 1. individuals who are not currently teaching and training but who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed and assessed practice requirements, of the qualification 2. individuals who are currently teaching and training (including those who have just begunteaching and training) who can meet the practice requirements, including the observed andassessed practice requirements, of the qualification or 3. individuals currently working as Assessors who wish to achieve a teaching qualification.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
You will need to access a learning environment where you are able to demonstrate and be assessed for teaching skills, with live learners. You will need to provide certificates for Maths and English at level 2, or be working towards them and complete before the end of the course. If you do not already hold level 2 qualifications in Maths and English, you will need to complete initial assessments, and reach level 2 during these to enrol on the course. You must be over 19 to enrol on this course.
What topics does the course cover?
The qualification consists of 36 credits; 21 from mandatory units, and 15 from optional units. The mandatory units are: 1. Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training, 2. Delivering Education and Training, 3. Using resources for Education and Training, 4. Assessing Learners in Education and Training, 5. Planning to meet the needs of Learners in Education and Training.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will receive classroom time and will be expected to complete some study online in your own time. You will be assessed using a range of methods such as: portfolio work, assignments, professional discussions, presentations, practical observations.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
After successful completion of this qualification, and Level 2 in Maths and English, you will be qualified to deliver education and training to learners in a post-compulsory education setting, such as a college, or deliver content on an apprenticeship.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
You can progress onto a Level 5 in Education and Training, or a degree in education and training.
