What is the course about?
Fancy yourself as the next Jamie Oliver but can't boil an egg? No worries. After taking our cookery course for beginners you will have a new found confidence for cooking. Our course clearly explains how to create well-balanced dishes, and is designed to teach you the essentials of cookery.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
For all students, whatever their level of skill.
What topics does the course cover?
Cooking methods and skills, organisational skills, presentation, health and safety, shopping for ingredients. Stocking your cupboard.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will be taught by watching practical demonstrations and then preparing recipes yourself. Your tutor will assess your practical progress and provide you with hints and tips on cooking techniques.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
You must supply ingredients for each session (at a cost of under a tenner), apron, and tea towel, a file for recipes, a pen and a container to take food home in.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
The aim of the course is to equip you with the skills to prepare and present a variety of sweet and savoury dishes.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Students who enjoy this course go on to join further cookery courses at WAES. If you wish to develop your cooking skills further our Intermediate cookery course may be for you.
