What is the course about?
This course is a progression program available to support individuals who have recently finished the full level 1 Functional Skill in English and wish to move on to our English GCSE program.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a level 1 English progression course, if you are not a current learner with WAES we will need to see proof of your current levels and may request that you take an online and written assessment to ensure that you have retained the requisit amount of skills & knowledge needed for this class.
What topics does the course cover?
The course will cover three elements, each chosen to support your transition from level 1 Functional Skills to GCSE. The elements covered are; skills used in reading for meaning, spelling rules and strategies in practical use and writing for meaning skill.
How will I be taught and assessed?
This is a predominently classed based course but you will be expected to commit to at least 20 hours of self directed home study, which will be supported by your tutor. The course is assessed on a continuous basis leading too the creation of a portfolio of work based evidence that demonstrates your skills and understanding of the subjects covered.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
You will need to provide your own folders and stationary to store your work and notes safety. Your tutor will also give you a list of useful books that you may wish to purchase, and you will need to bring your own note paper and pens.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?
If you are successful in completing all three units and demonstrate a commitment to your studies, you will automaticaly be moved to the GCSE program. The level at which you are entered will be based on your overal achievement and tutor feedback.
