What is the course about?
Not suitable for non English speakers below level 2 ESOL, the new Skills Builder classes are designed for learners that have weaknesses in specific areas of using English at home or at work. This class is designed for those who would like to improve their writing skills, alternatively this short bite sized course can be used as preparation for access to the full practical English classes at level 1 and 2.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This course is not suitable for lower level ESOL learners. Before you can enrol, you will need to have a short interview and an initial assessment with one of our staff to ensure the course is at the correct level for you.
What topics does the course cover?
This class is specifically aimed at helping you to improve your writing especially where common errors are made.
How will I be taught and assessed?
Your tutor will use a range of teaching methods, including small group work and practical tasks. All our classes are equipped with supportive technology and internet access, which is used to enhance your learning. You will be expected to carryout at least 5 hours of self study and your performance will be assessed throughout. There will be a formal test of your spelling ability and your ability to notice and correct more common spelling errors.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
The course is free but you will be expected to supply your own folder (A4 size) to keep your work, pen(s) paper and highlighters.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
You can progress onto any of the other skills builders classes at the same level or if successful move in to the full practical English skills class at level 1 or 2. Although it should be noted this will be subject to you passing an initial assessment at the required level.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Your progression to the full Functional Skill English class will be based on adequate attendance of at least 85% and having successfully passed the end of course assessment.
