What is the course about?
This course is designed for individuals that wish to stretch their skills and gain skills in event floristry. You will make specialist designs to high specifications, and work in a team to create large scale installations suitable for events. Each week you will create structures of a varied nature, suspended, flower walls, chandelier designs to mention a few using diverse flowers and foliage.
Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course?
No.
What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This course is designed for people with a keen interest in floristry and who have completed an introductory course in Floristry. It will be useful to recognise some flowers by name.
What topics does the course cover?
- Designing and working to budget and client requirements working to scale and specification of designs suitable for events
- Preparing large scale designs as part of a team working together to install designs and then dismantle them
- Health and safety laws implemented for event and working on site, e.g. hotels, private members clubs, weddings.
How will I be taught and assessed?
Your tutor will demonstrate techniques and most of the time will be spent making your designs. There will be classroom discussions, and practical elements will be observed by the tutor. You will be required to produce a written account of your work and sketch your ideas. At the end of the course learners will assess their individual progress and progression with the tutor.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
Materials will be provided for the course. In addition, a pair of scissors, floral knife, wires and mechanics will be provided by the centre. Please bring a, note book and pen, and use your phone camera to record your progress.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
- Design large scale floral installations, select suitable flowers and foliage
- Work as part of a team installing large scale designs applying health and safety measures
- Work to a design brief and budget
- Design and work to scale and understand the props used to create large scale designs show case designs creating a digital portfolio
