What is the course about?

ONLY FOR LEARNERS TO GLAZE BISQUE-FIRED WORK MADE WITHIN THE COLLEGE (this course does not involve crafting work from scratch, only glazing). This course would be perfect for those learners who have taken an intensive wheel throwing course or very useful for current learners who need an extra session to glaze work not completed in their class. Those totally new to ceramics will be given tuition in basic dipping and pouring glazing techniques.

Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course?

Yes, please contact our customer services before enrolling.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

Suitable for all levels, no prior knowledge of glazing pottery is required to attend this course. This course would be perfect for those learners who have taken an intensive wheel throwing course or very useful for current learners who need an extra session to glaze work not completed in their class.

What topics does the course cover?

The course will cover the basics of how apply glazes to bisque fired work by using dipping and pouring methods. There will also be some guidance on making appropriate glaze choices and some more decorative glazing techniques for more advanced learners too.

How will I be taught and assessed?

Learners will receive feedback on progress from the tutor on a regular basis. At the end of the course learners will assess their individual progress and progression with the tutor.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

No. Work being glazed should have been made at the college itself in order to assure consistency and outcome and there the firing will have been paid for in the first firing.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

By the end of the course learners will be able to independently enhance completed work by glazing and possibly have learner a variety of surface decoration techniques.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

After the course learners will be able to carry on to do a variety of other workshop based or accredited courses. Learners can then begin to build on their hand-building, throwing and decorating skills to glaze work independently.
