What is the course about?

Recommended as a route onto the level 2 Diploma in Women's Hair. This intensive course will introduce you to one length hair cuts; add a fringe or graduated lines for softening the outlines of designs and layering the hair to add volume and shape to a hairstyle.

Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course?

No.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

No experience required. Good dexterity, practical and/or creative skills required.

What topics does the course cover?

You will have the opportunity to see demonstrations and then complete a variety of classic haircuts: the one length hair cut, the basic layer, and the graduated hair cut. These cuts can be adapted as fashions evolve.

How will I be taught and assessed?

Haircuts will be achieved on training heads so you need not worry about handling scissors for the first time. Each look will be demonstrated by the tutor and then reproduced by you. The intensive course will be a mostly practical experience

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

General products and equipment are supplied by the college. You will need to have or purchase your own combs, scissors, pens and folders.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

You will be able to demonstrate a range of classic haircuts; understand the purpose of the main cutting techniques and have an insight into the skills and creative potential that can be developed through hairdressing. You should be able to cut a one length cut, add a fringe or graduated lines for softening the outlines of designs and layer the hair to add volume and shape to a hairstyle.
