What is the course about?
This level one IT user class is designed to build on your existing skills and knowledge around using IT at home or in the workplace. Not for beginners, we would expect you to be comfortable using a computer and have an awareness and some experience of using one or more of the more common software as well as email and the internet.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
You must be able to demonstrate a reasonable understanding of IT through the successful completion of an assessment or already hold an Entry level 3 IT User or functional skills qualification in IT. A good level of English is also required.
What topics does the course cover?
This course will cover how to effectively find and select information, manage your files, develop an understanding of keeping your computer secure and staying safe online, effectively using word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software at home and at work.
How will I be taught and assessed?
This is a tutor led, class based course, with an emphasis on hands on learning using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams. Additional practice outside of the classroom is essential as there will be practical assignments which need to be completed. At the end of the course, there will be a controlled assessment.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
The course is free for those in receipt of qualifying benefits or low income. You will need to provide an A4 folder and any stationary required. Having access to a desktop or laptop computer at home is essential and will aid understanding. *Please note if no computer is available at home we strongly recommend that you make use of the WAES learning centre or your local library.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
Successful learners will gain the Level 1 IT User Certificate. You may wish to the level 2 European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL Extra)
