What is the course about?
This is an intermediate clothes making course, which will help you to build on sewing or clothes making skills you already have. The course will challenge you to think creatively when it comes to clothes making techniques.
Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course?
What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This course is for learners who have completed the beginners clothes making course or equivalent. All learners are required to have basic sewing and garment construction skills. Basic Numeracy is essential.
What topics does the course cover?
You will cover topics such as draping, drafting and advanced garment construction techniques.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will be taught through demonstrations from the course tutor and practical work. Monitoring, questions and answers, and feedback will be given at each lesson.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
The fee includes most materials for sample pieces and use of equipment. If you wish to work independently at home you may wish to purchase your own small tools as advised by the tutor. A sketchbook and drawing materials are essential. You will be advised on what fabric you will need to buy for your final garment.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the course you will be able to drape onto a dress-making stand, transfer your pieces onto a pattern and sew a toile.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
You can enrol onto one of WAES’s accredited fashion courses, if you meet the course entry requirements. Alternatively, you can enrol onto any other specialist fashion course at WAES.
