What is the course about?

This is a progression course if you have done a beginner’s course in Floral Design or Floristry. You will work continue with beautiful fresh flowers and create new traditional and contemporary designs, which you can take home each week.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

This is a progression course if you have done a beginner’s course in Floral Design or Floristry. It will be useful to recognise some flowers by name.

What topics does the course cover?

- You will learn to recognise and name a range of flower and plant materials, and how to handle and care for fresh flowers and foliage.
- You will understand basic elements and principles of design, and create traditional and contemporary flower arrangements.
- You will create designs including, linear arrangement, table centrepieces, asymmetrical design, and use appropriate skills and techniques for construction.
- You will create a colour wheel and mood boards.
- You will learn how to cost the design and how to stage the design using accessories.
- You will learn Health and Safety requirements and precautions needed for your personal safety and for those around you.

How will I be taught and assessed?

Your tutor will demonstrate techniques and most of the time will be spent making the arrangements. There will be classroom discussions, and practical elements will be observed by the tutor. You will be required to produce a written account of your work and sketch your ideas. At the end of the course learners will assess their individual progress and progression with the tutor. Notes will be provided.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

Materials will be provided for the course. In addition, a pair of scissors, floral knife, wires and mechanics will be provided by the centre. Please bring a, note book and pen, and use your phone camera to record your progress.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
