What is the course about?

You will build your proficiency and confidence in handbuilding and/or wheel throwing. You’ll produce quality work through a project-based assignment, using contemporary and historical ceramics for inspiration. Learners will be encouraged to be experimental with surface decoration and glazing.

Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course?

No.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

Not suitable for beginners. This course is for learners who have already achieved a good Level 2 qualification or Level 3 in Ceramics.

What topics does the course cover?

Research and design development, intermediate and advanced construction techniques, wheel throwing, surface decoration and glazing.

How will I be taught and assessed?

Learners will receive feedback on progress from the tutor on a regular basis. At the end of the course learners will assess their individual progress and progression with the tutor.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

Most specialist materials are included in the course fee. However, learners are expected to buy more expensive materials at cost price (such as porcelain).

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

By the end of the course learners will be able to develop an individual design, construct a final project and enhance and complete project work with appropriate surface decoration and glazes.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

This course will enable learners to progress on to other advanced courses, higher education or into self-employment.
