What is the course about?
Develop new skills and explore the basic design principles you need for professional graphic design practice using Adobe Creative Cloud. Discover the fundamentals of typography with Illustrator, the relationship between type and image in layout using Indesign and how to manipulation images in Photoshop.
You will have free access to Adobe Creative Cloud Software on your own laptop while you are a student at WAES or up to 4 weeks after the course finishes.

No.
What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
The course is for beginners using the Adobe Creative Cloud. You will need good general computer skills to take this course.
What topics does the course cover?
Learn the key uses of and differences between Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop and how to integrate them in a work / design environment. Through a series of creative exercises and design briefs the course will cover;
- Design principles
- Structure in Layout
- Typography / designing with type
- Manipulating images
- Creative thinking and visual problem solving
- Critically evaluating design work
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, and by completing practical exercises. Apple Mac computers are provided for each student with all the necessary software installed. Student preparation and homework outside class is encouraged. Notes will be provided. At the end of the course learners will assess their individual progress and progression with the tutor.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
A memory stick (USB) to save any scanned or digital files.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
Create type design in Illustrator
- Create page layouts with type and images in InDesign
- Manipulate and enhance images using Photoshop
