What is the course about?

On this short course, you will be introduced to the processes of mould making and slip casting as well as a brief overview of more experimental approaches to using slip.

Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course?

No.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

The course is ideal for both beginners or those who have some understanding of ceramic processes and would like to further their skills and learn new techniques.

What topics does the course cover?

The basic principles of mould making- learn to make press moulds, drop-out, two or three-part plaster moulds for slip casting from hand-built forms or from found objects, the process of slip casting sculptural components or batch production, and a variety of more experimental approaches to using slip.

How will I be taught and assessed?

The course is taught through demonstrations, group and one-to-one discussions with set tasks or individual projects. At the end of the course learners will assess their individual progress and progression with the tutor.or.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

All equipment, and materials are included, we do make a small charge (priced per kilo) for the clay used before the first firing only. If you wish to take your mould home with you, there will be an additional charge for this (priced per kilo).

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

By the end of the course learners will be able to independently use basic mould-making techniques and understand the possibilities of slip casting.
