What is the course about?
You will explore the materials and methods of oil painting, traditional and contemporary. Instruction will be given on paint handling, working with varied consistencies of paint and brushwork. Emphasis will be placed upon the art of looking, concentrating upon selection and composition, colour and tonal relationships, the making of a picture. Through practical examples, individual and group discussion, you will learn how to start, develop and resolve a painting. Participants will work from still-life subjects and other observational sources using a wider range of supports, grounds and mediums_x000D_

No.
What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
No prior experience of oil painting neccessary. This is an introductory course which does not require previous painting experience._x000D_
What topics does the course cover?
How to apply colour mixing techniques, paint handling, working with varied consistencies of paint and brushwork. How to look, concentrating upon selection and composition, colour and tonal relationships and the making of a picture. Learners will work from still-life subjects and other observational sources using a wider range of supports, grounds and mediums
How will I be taught and assessed?
Learners will receive feedback on progress from the tutor regularly. At the end of the term learners will assess individual progress and progression with the tutor._x000D_
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
You will need to provide the following materials: _x000D_Pencil - 4B grade, rubber, pen, 1-inch roll of masking tape._x000D_Brushes_x000D_A beginner's painting kit is suitable (we recommend Windsor & Newton or Rowney) Advice will be given on the first class as to what and where to buy materials.
