What is the course about?
Phonics! Learn the correct sounds, learn the phonics rules and the exceptions to those rules, become familiar with the terminology, know how to break down words to read them and to build up words to spell them. With support available for Arabic, Spanish and French speakers but ALL are welcome. A series of 4 workshops.
Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course?
No.
What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This course is for learners with little English new to the UK. No prior qualifications are required.
What topics does the course cover?
Phonics! Learn the correct sounds, learn the phonics rules and the exceptions to those rules, become familiar with the terminology, know how to break down words to read them and to build up words to spell them.
How will I be taught and assessed?
This is an on line course of six workshops. There is no formal assessment for this course, the tutor will make continuous informal assessments and teach according to your personal learning needs.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
You will need access to the internet and use of an electronic device such as a mobile phone- ideally a tablet or laptop.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
Using the simple phonics rules you will be able to breakdown words to read them and build up words to spell them. From here you will be able to start reading and writing in English with increasing confidence.
