What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

This is a Level 1 course. Learners need to have Entry Level 3 English level reading and writing and Level 1 speaking and listening English skills. Additionally, you should have at least basic digital IT skills.

What topics does the course cover?

There are a number of units to complete including Understanding the role of the bookkeeper, Understanding financial transactions, Processing customer and supplier transactions and Processing receipts and payments.

How will I be taught and assessed?

This course is a mixture of on line learning with some classroom activities where possible. You will be expected to have your own computer or laptop and a reliable source of internet. The course is assessed by on line examinations.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365. You will need a non programable calculator.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

By the end of this course you will understand the basics of bookkeeping, specifically understanding the key difference between cash and credit transactions, including fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to operate as a bookkeeper.

This qualification offers progression on to the Level 1 Accounting Software course or the Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.
