What is the course about?
This course aims to introduce learners to Counselling Skills in preparation for further learning or training. The development of listening skills will also support learners to develop skills need in daily life and at work for example in the field of health and social care.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a level one course. You will not need any prior qualifications or experience in Counselling, however you will need to be working at Level 1 in English reading, writing, speaking and listening.
What topics does the course cover?
In this course you will study two mandatory units which are: Introducing Counselling skills and Using Counselling skills to help others. You will need to pass these two units to achieve the qualification.
How will I be taught and assessed?
This course is delivered in the classroom, 1 day a week. Assessment is done by learners completing a portfolio of evidence.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
There are no additional costs. Learners will need access to a PC or laptop and reliable internet connection for the on line learning classes.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the course learners will have a basic understanding of what Counselling involves and they will develop listening skills.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
