What is the course about?

The Level 1 Award in Environmental Sustainability is designed to give learners knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of sustainability and environmental impacts. This course will introduce the learner to key issues in sustainability, raising awareness of the topic and encouraging them to consider their role in helping to make sustainable choices. The aims of this course is to enable learners:•To understand basic concepts in sustainability•To develop a basic understanding of the environmental impacts of the creation of goods and services•To understand what makes up a sustainable community

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

This is a Level 1 Award course. Learners need to have Entry Level 3 English level reading and writing and Level 1 speaking and listening English skills. Additionally, you should have at least basic digital IT skills.

What topics does the course cover?

Topics covered are: basic concepts in sustainability, a basic understanding of the environmental impacts of the creation of goods and services and what makes up a sustainable community.

How will I be taught and assessed?

This course is taught face-to-face in college. It is assessed through the completion of a-devised multiple-choice test that is carried out at the completion of the course.The grading of this qualification is pass or did not achieve.Learners must complete one unit for the Level 1 Award in Environmental Sustainability. Certification is given for achieving a pass in the external assessment.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

By the end of the course you will achieved an accredited Level 1 Award in Environmental Sustainability. You will have also developed digital skills such as saving word documents on a computer or laptop, research skills and using the internet safely.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

Learners may progress on to the Level 2 Award in Environmental Sustainability.
