What is the course about?
The content of the course prepares learners for further learning and training whilst developing an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting. It covers areas such as how to support the well-being of a child or young person and child and young person development.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a Level 1 Award course. Learners need to have Entry Level 3 English level reading and writing and Level 1 speaking and listening English skills. Additionally, you should have at least basic digital IT skills.
What topics does the course cover?
There are three units for this Level 1 Award, Understand schools as organisations, Understand how to keep children and young people healthy, safe and well and Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will be expected to have your own computer or laptop and a reliable source of internet. The course is an e portfolio course, where you will study the units and build a portfolio of evidence along with your tutor. You will be expected to attend each session in college when appropriate and meet deadlines for homework submissions.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the course you will achieve an accredited Level 1 Award qualification and have gained knowledge about schools as organisations. You will have also developed digital skills such as saving word documents on a computer or laptop, research skills and using the internet safely.
