What is the course about?
This is a course designed to prepare the learner for the Hair and Beauty Industry. You will gain insight to the industry and understand the services required, learn to work in a team. Develop hair styling and makeup techniques. Also expand your knowledge of the world of work, preparing for Interview and ways to job search. Approved by The Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA).

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
No previous skills are required. The college does require an interview before enrolling and initial assessment for Maths, English, and ITC. If you want to improve skills and knowledge in the assessment areas, the college can support you.
What topics does the course cover?
Blow drying, styling, dressing and plaiting techniques for hair. Cleansing routines, Makeup techniques for day and other occasions; knowledge of the industry and its service; Health and Safety and Preparing for the job market through research, interview techniques and teamwork.
How will I be taught and assessed?
Taught through demonstrations, IT, online and group work enabling the learner to build a portfolio of work. Assessed by practical observation and gathering mood board and written units.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
You provide your own stationary; guidance is given on tools and kit by the tutor in the initial lessons. The college supplies training heads, brushes and combs and a wide range of tools, electrical equipment, and products to support the learner. You will need a camera and laptop or tablet for this course.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the course, you will have some skills and knowledge of the industry; be able to style, dry set, blow dry and wet set hair; produce makeups for day and evening and special events; be able to conduct yourself in a professional, safe, and ethical manner as befits the trade. Know how to prepare and present yourself for work in the industry.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
You can progress to the Level 2 courses; the Level 2 Makeup Diploma, Level 3 Media Makeup, Level 2 Ladies Hairdressing Diploma or Level 2 Barbering Diploma.
