What is the course about?
This course is designed to help you improve your practical maths skills. You will be able to apply the skills learnt in everyday life, both at home and in the workplace.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a Level 1 course. Before you can enrol, you will need to complete an initial assessment and have an interview with one of our enrolment team to ensure the level is correct for you. For non English speakers we would expect you to have completed ESOL level 2 or higher.
What topics does the course cover?
The course covers the following topics and more - understanding how to use whole numbers with up to two significant figures, understanding how to use addition and subtraction in practical situations, recognise and use familiar measures, including time, area and money.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will attend regular class based session a week, where your tutor will be using a combination of teaching styles, including pair and small group work to support your learning. We also expect all learners to carryout a minimum of 5 hours a week self directed online learning
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
The course is free but you will be expected to supply your own additional resources. Access to a PC, laptop or compatible tablet with internet is essential for the online element. If you do not have internet access we strongly recommend you make full use of our learning centres or your local library.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the course you will be ready to take the relevant Functional Skills assessment and progress onto your chosen vocational pathway.
