This course is instantly recognised by many employers and is designed for work and home users that want to improve their IT user skills, utilising the key Microsoft software products found on most home and work based laptops and desktop computers.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
The course is level 1 so it is essential that you have already completed a program at entry level 3 (or above) or already have a good understanding of using core office products such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
What topics does the course cover?
During the course you will cover the essentials of using Word Processing Software, Spreadsheet Software and IT security (staying safe online).
How will I be taught and assessed?
The course is classroom based, supported by an IT teacher. In class you will have access to up to date desktop computers, using the the latest versions of the software. You will however, need to commit to carrying out a minimum of 10 hours of self directed home based study. In most cases this will be using our online systems or making practical use of the software being taught.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
The course is free to those on low income or in reciept of qualifying benefits. You will need to provide your own folders, pens and note books and your teacher may advise you of optional, additional reading materials that would help you with the course. As a learner at WAES you will also be able to download, a free, fully licenced copy of Microsofts most up to date office software suite for use at home.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
Evidence shows that learners who complete both the level one and level two are more productive in their work, as they are better able to use and understand these key products. We would therefore highly recommend that you consider enrolling onto the next level to further improve those exisitng skills.
