What is the course about?
Improve your digital skills with our Level 1 programme. Developing skills introduced at Entry 3, this is a continuation to understanding the world of technology for home and work users. Become competent, safe and productive, developing new skills and building your confidence. You will need a reliable internet source and a computer or laptop, but some learners maybe entitled to support with new equipment.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
The course is Level 1, so it is a requirement that you have already completed the essential digital skills qualification at Entry Level 3 or are working towards level 1 in all areas identified in your initial assessment.
What topics does the course cover?
Areas covered on the course include - Using devices and handling information, creating and editing, communicating, transacting, being safe and responsible online.
How will I be taught and assessed?
This course is offered as a blended programme where you will receive tuition and direction at set times during the week from your tutor. You will need to be able to access this direct teaching input, engaging with your tutor and peers and have time to practice your skills as homework. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365. You will be required to attend onsite to undertake assessments.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
At level 1 you will have a sound knowledge of using IT for a range of purposes at home and at work. You will be familiar with choosing the correct product for the task and to be able to create and edit a range of documents to suit the intended purpose.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Upon successful completion of level 1 you may wish to use these skills to support your study of other subjects. Or you may want to develop your digital skills further and enrol on our level 2 course to further advance your skills.
