What is the course about?
This level 1 course is designed to help you improve your practical English skills. You will be able to apply the skills learnt in everyday life, both at home and in the workplace.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a Level 1 course, before you can enrol, you will need to take an initial assessment and have a short interview with one of our staff, so we can ensure this is the right level for you. This course is not suitable for ESOL learners who have not completed ESOL to level 2 or above.
What topics does the course cover?
The course covers the practical use of Reading (extracting information from different texts), writing both formal and informal communications and speaking and listening (presentation skills) and builds on from the Entry level 3 or ESOL level 2 classes.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will attend one class basic session a week, where your tutor will be using pair and small group work to support your learning.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
The course is free but you will be expected to supply your own additional resources. Access to a PC, laptop or compatible tablet with internet is essential for the online element. If you do not have internet access we strongly recommend you make full use of our learning centres or your local library.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the course you will be ready to take the relvent Functional Skills assessment and progress onto your chosen vocational pathway.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Successful completion will help you move to the next level of vocational course. You may also be encouraged to move to the next level of Functional Skills (level 2), this is however essential if you are looking to progress to a level 3 vocational course.
