What is the course about?
The Level 2 Certificate in Barbering is a qualification that has beenspecifically designed to develop your practical skills in; the creative art of cutting men’s hair, the specialist work of cutting facial hair and how to offer a good consultation service for clients. This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA).

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a Level 2 course, you do not need any previous hair or make-up experience. You are required to have Level 1 literacy and be working towards a Level 2 literacy award. An interview can be arranged for you by the admin team.
What topics does the course cover?
Working in the industry; maintain good health and safety; consultation; shampoo and conditioning; styling, cutting and colouring hair; cutting, shaping and grooming facial hair, and designing a theme for a special event.
How will I be taught and assessed?
Work will be set to improve your practical skills, knowledge and understanding.For practical elements, you will be observed by your tutor. All your work will becollected in a portfolio of evidence. Underpinning this qualification you will developa sound knowledge of health and safety, whilst working in the barbering industry. The course is assessed and verified by centre staff.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
General products and equipment are supplied by the college. You will need to have or purchase your own combs, scissors, pens and folders.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Barbering Texturizing You will know the fundamentals of barbering including cutting hair with clippers and scissors, shampooing, head patterns, beard trimming, and delivering a thorough consultation.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
You can progress onto one of the Level 2 Diploma courses in Hairdressing. This qualification may lead directly into employment in the barbering industry as a junior stylist or to work as an independent barber.
