What is the course about?

The Level 2 Certificate in Cosmetic Make-Up and Beauty Consultancy is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical make-up skills for industry . You will learn how to apply make-up for different occasions and situations. You will study skins types and face shapes, plus eyebrow and eyelash treatments. Health and safety and professional practices will support your practical knowledge to give you a complete understanding of the make-up industry.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

This is a Level 2 course. Ideally you should have a Level 1 in Make-up or equivalent experience. You should also have level 1 literacy and basic numeracy.

What topics does the course cover?

The certificate covers 5 units which cover working in the beauty related industries, health and safety, client care, apply make-up and eyelash and eyebrow treatments.

How will I be taught and assessed?

The course will be taught through practical work and assignments that will help to develop your understanding of the industry. You will work in pairs, individually and in small groups. Regular feedback will be given by the tutor and You will develop a portfolio of evidence for assessment.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

There is a studio fee, which will cover most of the materials and equipment that you will need for the course. You will be expected to buy you own make-up brushes. Your tutor can advise you on this in week 1.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

By the end of the course you will have the skills and understanding needed to work in the make-up industry. You will be able to prepare the skin and client for a consultation and apply make-up for different occasions, plus provide eyelash and brow treatments. Health and safety and client care and roles within the make-up industry will also have been covered.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

On completion of this course you can progress onto Level 3 Production Arts in Make-up at WAES, take future level 2 or 3 beauty courses or apply for work / freelance in the make-up industry.
