What is the course about?

The Level 2 Certificate is perfect for Learners who know how to sew and are looking to develop new skills and expertise in fashion. You will learn how to design, plan, and make garments along with learning skills such as pattern cutting, fitting and finishing garments.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

This Course is ideal for Intermediate Learners who have successfully completed a level 1 fashion / sewing course, or can show evidence of working at this level. A level 1 standard of English is also required, as is basic numeracy.

What topics does the course cover?

This Level 2 Course will cover key essential skills for employability within the Fashion Industry, such as: Illustrated Fashion Design, Fabrics and Trimmings, decorative print patterns, pattern cutting and making garments.

How will I be taught and assessed?

The Course Tutors will teach and support you in a creative and friendly environment. You will be taught through practical demonstrations, research and hands on making. Assessment will be practical and feedback will be given on a regular basis.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

Basic materials and equipment will be provided, but you will need to buy your own selected fabrics to make your garments. At the beginning of the course you will be provided with a small list of equipment you will need such as: A4 ring binder, sketchbook, drawing materials, basic sewing kit etc.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

By the end of the Course you will be able to conduct and interpret research to generate fashion design ideas, demonstrate an understanding of the fashion design process through illustrated fashion designs and produce finished fashion products.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

Once you have successfully completed the course you will be awarded with a Level 2 Certificate in Skills for the Fashion Industries. Your Course Tutor will support you in exploring your progression opportunities, which includes the level 3 fashion course at WAES or another college, or finding employment in the Fashion Industries.
