What is the course about?
This new Qualification in Skills for the fashion industries Level 2 Certificate is perfect for Learners who are looking to develop new skills and expertise in fashion. The Course will introduce you to Fashion Design Research, Computer Aided Design (CAD) for Fashion, Detailed Garment Construction and Preparation for Employment in the Fashion Industries. You will learn in a flexible environment with the opportunity and freedom to truly explore and express your creative abilities through fashion design development, illustrated fashion drawings, textile print design and garment construction. Whilst on the Course, you will also learn how to research job opportunities in fashion employment, produce CVs for various fashion job roles, and how to prepare for a job interview in the fashion industries. Based at our Amberley Road Centre, you will learn in a contemporary and stimulating environment, equipped with specialist facilities and taught by practicing industry experts who are recognised for their creativity and expertise within the fashion industries. The Course Tutors will encourage and support you to meet and exceed all your goals on the Course. Whilst on the Course, you will also exhibit your work.This Course requires 100% Attendance, Punctuality and an interest in Fashion.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a Level 2 Certificate In Skills for the Fashion Industries. This Course is ideal for Intermediate Learners who are required to have a Level 1 in English. Basic Numeracy is also desirable. Formal qualifications are required to enrol onto this Course.
What topics does the course cover?
This Level 2 Course will cover key essential skills for employability within the Fashion Industry, such as: Illustrated Fashion Design, Fabrics and Trimmings, decorative print patterns, how to apply for employment in the Fashion Industries and much more. The Course will also cover Pattern Cutting and the production of a detailed garment.It is also important to note that there is strictly no Food or Drinks allowed in the Fashion Studio.
How will I be taught and assessed?
The Course will be taught by fashion industry specialists, who are also practitioners within the fashion Industry. The Course tutors will teach you the skills and knowledge in a supportive and friendly environment. You will be taught through practical demonstrations, research and design activities, visits to museums and galleries. The Course will also incorporate some online activities. Whilst on the Course you will be given frequent feedback by the Course Tutors and your peers through class critiques and One-to-One Tutorials. You will be formally assessed through the Course Unit Criteria.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
Yes. There is a material fee, and at the start of the Course, you will be provided with a small list of equipment you will need for the Course, such as: A4 ring binder, drawing materials, basic sewing kit etc.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the Course, you will be able to demonstrate practical skills such as: work to a design brief, collate and interpret visual research, develop and finalise design ideas and produce a detailed garment. Upon completion of the Course, you will also have the relevant skills to be able to apply and prepare for an interview for employment in the fashion industries.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Once you have successfully completed the course you will be awarded with a Level 2 Certificate in Skills for the Fashion Industries. Your Course Tutor, will support you in exploring the your progression opportunities, which includes further developing your knowledge and skills by applying for a Level 3 Certificate in Employment in the Fashion Industries, which starts in April 2016. You can also enrol onto a Fashion traineeship or apprenticeship, if will you would like to gain direct industry experience. Alternatively you can progress onto another specialist Course at WAES.
