What is the course about?
The Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make up is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical media make-up and hair skills. You will learn how to apply make-up for different occasions and situations. You will study skin types and face shapes, plus eyebrow and eyelash treatments and photographic make- up. Health and safety and professional practices will support your practical knowledge to give you a complete understanding of the make-up industry. You will create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector and utilise Body art designs and skin tanning techniques. The art of colouring hair and dressing hair alongside making and styling a hair addition.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a Level 2 course. Ideally you should have a Level 1 in Make-up or equivalent experience. You should also have level 1 literacy and basic numeracy.
What topics does the course cover?
Working in beauty related industries, Follow health and safety in the salon, client care and communication in beauty related industries. Apply make-up, provide eyelash and brow treatments, create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector, The art of photographic make- up, body art design, apply skin tanning techniques, the art of colouring hair, the art of dressing hair, Make and style a hair addition.
How will I be taught and assessed?
The course will be taught through practical work, demonstration and video that will help to develop your skills for the industry.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
Learners are expected to provide their own kit of brushes, combs and scissors. Also A4 folder and pens. There is a studio fee, which will cover most of the materials and equipment that you will need for the course. You will be expected to buy you own make-up brushes. Your tutor can advise you on this in week 1. The college will provide electrical equipment and products.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the course you will have the skills and understanding needed to work in the media and beauty related make-up industry. You will have the skills to look further at courses in Hairdressing or advanced media courses.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Level 3 media makeup or level 2 top-up diplomas in Hairdressing.
