What is the course about?
This Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make up is a qualification that will develop your practical media make up and hair skills. You will learn how to apply make up for different occasions and situations. You will study skins types and face shapes plus eyebrow and eyelash treatments and photographic make up. Health and Safety and professional practices will support your practical knowledge to give you a complete understanding of the make up industry. You will also study Body art and Skin Tanning techniques.You will develop your skills and techniques throughout the course and take part in a Fashion, Hair and Make-up show as part of your qualification.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a Level 2 course. You should have a Level 1 in Make up or equivalent experience. You should also have Level 1 Functional Skill English and Maths ( Or GCSE) and good IT skillsYou will be expected to attend a pre-enrolment interview or assessmentYou must also be able to attend 100% to each class and from 9.30 – 4.30If you are considering moving to a Level 3 after this course you will be advised to study Level 2 English Functional Skills alongside this Level 2 Make-up course. This will help your application for the next level
What topics does the course cover?
You will gain knowledge of the industry and its service including Health and Safety and how to prepare for the job market through research, interview techniques and teamwork. You will complete units of study in Applying Make-up for different occasions,:Photographic Make-up, Body Art, Eyelash and Brow Treatments, Styling and Colouring Hair, Making and Styling a Hair Extension and Skin Tanning.
How will I be taught and assessed?
The course will be taught through a blend of practical work, demonstrations and theory classes delivered on site in class and on line. You will build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed in order to demonstrate your competance and gain your qualification. You will need access to reliable internet and the use of a PC or laptop in order to attend the online sessions.The course will be taught through a blend of practical work, demonstrations and theory classes delivered on site in class and online. You will have an electronic portfolio and will be expected to work on it each week so you must have good IT skills. There is a Learning Center with Digital Ambassadors to support you but you will be given weekly tasks that require you to be able confidently access and use a computer
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
You will be expected to provide your own kit of make-up brushes. Make up products and hair products are provided.Your teacher will advise you on where to buy your brushes, in the first sessionThere is no uniform but you will be expected to wear black clothes and flat black shoes
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
You will have the skills and knowledge required to work in the media and beauty related make-up industry.Some employers will require you to have a Level 3 qualification which we would highly recommend and we can discuss this with you while you are studying your Level 2
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Upon successful completion of this course and if you have the correct level of English ( L2 to move onto a L3 Make-up or Hair course) you can progress to any of the Level 3 courses in Makeup, Women’s Hairdressing or Barbering
