What is the course about?
The content of the course is to enhance your knowledge needed to provide a safe and stimulating environment for children and young people. It will enable you to support child development and understand how to safeguard children and young people. You will learn about legislations, policies and procedures that influence the childcare provision.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a Level 2 course. Learners need to have Level 1 level reading and writing and Level 1 speaking and listening English skills. Additionally, you should have at least basic digital IT skills.
What topics does the course cover?
There are 13 units on this course covering the following topics - strategies for promoting children and young people�s positive behaviour, knowledge and understanding of child and young people�s development, promoting positive relationships with children and adults, safeguarding children and young people, supporting children and young people's health and safety, the importance of play and creativity, searching for a job, preparing for an interview, working in partnership with a team and others.
How will I be taught and assessed?
This course is a mixture of on line learning with some classroom activities where possible. You will be expected to have your own computer or laptop and a reliable source of internet. The course is a portfolio course, where you will study units and build a portfolio of evidence along with your tutor. You will be expected to attend each session either on line or in college when appropriate and meet deadlines for homework submissions.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
Learners on a low income or in receipt of applicable benefits will not be required to pay a fee. You will need regular access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet service to complete this course. Once enrolled, learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office and will be given access to Microsoft office 365.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the course you will achieve an accredited Level 2 qualification and have gained knowledge about child development and how to work safely with young children. You will understand the importance of legislation, policies and procedures in relation to working with children and young people. You will have also developed digital skills such as saving word documents on a computer or laptop, research skills and using the internet safely.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
This qualification can lead to employment as a nursery assistant and/or opportunities to progress to a Level 3 childcare or the teaching assistant course.
