What is the course about?

This Level 2 Diploma will teach you the underpinning principles and practical skills required to become a hairdresser of women's hair. Different cutting, colouring and styling techniques will be developed using live models as well as theory classes about Health and safety, salon reception, client consultation skills.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

This is a Level 2 course. You should have a Level 1 in womens hairdressing or equivalent experience. You should also have level 1 English and maths and basic IT skills.

What topics does the course cover?

In this course you will cover client consultation, shampoo and conditioning, different cutting techniques, styling and dressing techniques, colouring and perming, health and safety and salon practices within the industry will underpin your practical skills.

How will I be taught and assessed?

The course will be taught through a blend of practical work, demonstrations and theory classes delivered on site in class and on line. You will build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed in order to demonstrate your competance and gain your qualification. You will need access to reliable internet and the use of a PC or laptop in order to attend the online sessions.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

Learners are expected to provide their own kit of brushes, combs and scissors. There is a studio fee which will cover most of the products and equipment that you will need for the course. Your tutor can advise you on this in week 1 abut the kit you will need to purchase.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

You will have professional skills which include client consultation, shampoo and conditioning, different cutting techniques, styling and dressing techniques, colouring and perming, Health and safety, and salon practices within the industry.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

Upon successful completion of this course you can go directly into employment in the hairdressing industry as a junior stylist or progress onto tjhe Level 3 Diploma in Womenas Hairdressing.
