Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course?

Yes, please contact our customer services before enrolling.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

This is a level 2 class and you will be expected to already hold a level 1 IT User, or level 1 Functional Skills IT qualification or be able to demonstarte a good level of competancy. A reasonable understanding of file management is required and the core Microsoft products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is essential.

What topics does the course cover?

During the course you will look at using office software to improve your productivity as well as develop you skills in using three of the most common office software products: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint, using Office 2016 and Office 365

How will I be taught and assessed?

This is a class based course with an emphasis on practical skills and you will need to attend two sessions a week. It is essential that you practice your skills outside of the classroom as often as possible. Your tutor will set you homework tasks that must be completed.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

The course is free for those in receipt of qualifying benefits or low income. You will be expected to supply your own additional resources (your tutor will recommend any suitable books). Access to a PC or laptop with internet and Microsoft office is essential. Active learners will be able to download a free copy of Microsoft Office 2016 and will be given access to Microsoft office 365.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

By the end of the course you will be ready to take the ECDL Extra assessments and be able to demonstrate to an employer your competency in using and understanding the core Office products that are used by many. The skills you learn will be transferable across other software products and you may wish to move onto more specialist areas such as Graphic Design.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

Progression would be to a more specialist IT program such as desktop support.
