What is the course about?

This level 2 course is designed to help you improve your practical English skills to Level 2. You will be able to apply the skills learnt in everyday life, both at home and in the workplace.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

You will need an Initial Assessment and interview to ensure that you are on the correct level.

What topics does the course cover?

The course covers reading (extracting information from different texts), writing (both formal and informal) and speaking and listening (presentation and discussion skills). The content builds on from the Level 1.

How will I be taught and assessed?

Teaching is classroom based. You will be required to complete assessments for each of the units within the course. You will have access to additional resources on an educational platform. The course is likely to include one trip out to a museum or historical palace.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

The course is free if you meet the eligibility criteria. You must be a UK resident or have lived in the UK for 3 years or more and be aged 19 before 1st August 2023.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

By the end of the course you will be ready to take the relevant Functional Skills assessment and progress onto your chosen vocational pathway.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

If you are interested in progressing to further study you may be able to progress onto GCSE or Preparation to GCSE.
