What is the course about?
This is a level 2 functional skills course, allows continuing progression from Level 1 to level 2. Functional skills maths is aimed at developing a users practical maths skills in everyday life.
Is a pre-enrolment interview or assessment required for this course?
What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This level 2 maths course, is a progression course for candidates that have recently completed the level 1 functional skills in mathematics. External candidates must have completed their level 1 program within the last 12 months and be able to provide a certificate of completion. You will be asked to complete an online assessment, in order to allow us to better gauge you current levels. WAES reserve the right to refuse your application to this course, if your levels are unsatisfactory.
What topics does the course cover?
This course covers the extended use of numbers and the number system including: whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages. Handling, interpreting and displaying information and data in charts and graphs. Solve mathematical problems and make decisions around the results.
How will I be taught and assessed?
This is a tutor led classroom based course and will utilise a range of different teaching methods, incuding (but not limited to)online e-learning and workbooks.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
We advise that you purchase a good (non scientific) calculator, have available, a standard maths set, notebook, pens, pencils, eraser and folder to store handouts. Your tutor will advise you of the recommended workbook(s) at the start of the course.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
Candidates who successfully complete this qualification, will be able to demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge of practical maths to solve problems in everyday situations including at work and at home.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
On succesful completion of the level 1 program, you will be given the opportunity to progress to a GCSE class (based on exam result and GCSE assessment result) starting in September or the level 2 functional skills. Your tutor will guide you as to the best option for your needs.
