What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

In order to undertake this course you must have English at Level 2. You will need to know how to use an electrical device such as a computer, laptop or tablet due to the delivery of the course being all on line. An interview will be required.

What topics does the course cover?

In this course, you will learn how to adopt a positive approach to supporting individuals with autism, the current legislative framework relating to individuals with autism and how different theories have developed over time, how to support and manage transitions for individuals with autism, the range of therapeutic interventions and support available for individuals with autism and co-occurring conditions, how to support communication and social interaction for individuals with autism, how to develop an understanding of how individuals with autism may be vulnerable and the support worker?s role and responsibilities relating to safeguarding according to legislative requirements.

How will I be taught and assessed?

You will be provided with online learning materials which covers all aspects of your course. You will be required to complete assessments for each of the units within the course and submit these by the deadline dates provided at induction. You will be allocated an assessor at the start of your course and they will support you to ensure you have a successful outcome. IT skills will be developed throughout your course and basic English skills will be assessed and discussed on an ongoing basis.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

Level 3 courses are fully funded if you have not completed a full level 3 course before.If you have completed a level 3 course before but you are in receipt of out of work benefits or earn under £21,000 a year and live in London, the course is fully funded.If you have completed a level 3 course and earn over £21,000 a year, you will need to arrange for a loan cover the cost of the course yourself.Please enquire for more information.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

On successful completion of this course you will gain a Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Autism.
