What is the course about?
This qualification enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. Successful completion of the units will allow learners to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and its effects. The objectives of this qualification are to enable learners to understand:• types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis• person-centred approaches in dementia care• the role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support• the use of medication to support individuals with dementia.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
In order to undertake this course you must have English at Level 2. An interview will be required. There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 health and social care related qualification.
What topics does the course cover?
The objectives of this qualification are to enable learners to understand - types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis, person-centred approaches in dementia care, the role of communication, integration and inclusion in dementia care and support, the use of medication to support individuals with dementia.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will be provided with online learning materials which covers all aspects of your course. You will be required to complete assessments for each of the units within the course and submit these by the deadline dates provided at induction. You will be allocated an assessor at the start of your course and they will support you to ensure you have a successful outcome. IT skills will be developed throughout your course and basic English skills will be assessed and discussed on an ongoing basis. Learners are required to successfully complete 7 mandatory units
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
You will need to know how to use and have access to a device such as a computer, laptop or tablet due to the delivery of the course being online. Eligibility to be discussed at interview.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
On successful completion of this course you will gain a Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care
