What is the course about?

The content of this course will prepare you to become Early Years Educators, enabling you to work with children from birth to 5 years. You will need to have a placement in an early years setting and complete a DBS at college. The Diploma has a strong emphasis on the skills required of the Early Years Practitioner in the 21st century. The mandatory units ensures that learners have a good understanding of underpinning knowledge and skills relevant to the role of the Early Years Practitioner.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

This is a Level 3 course, therefore, learners will need to have English Level 2 writing, speaking and Listening skills and Maths Level 2 or GCSE English and Maths. It is also essential that you will have completed a Level 2 Childcare course or be in employment, to undertake this qualification. Additionally, you should have good digital IT skills. You will need to have an interview with the Team before you are enrolled.

What topics does the course cover?

There are 23 mandatory units that need to be completed in this qualification covering some of the following topics - Support healthy lifestyles for children through the provision of food and nutrition, Support healthy lifestyles for children through exercise ,Promote children’s emotional well-being, Understand legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children and Use legislation relating to the health and safety of children.

How will I be taught and assessed?

This course will be assessed by producing an e-portfolio of evidence that proves your ability and competence to work with children from birth 5. You will also be observed by your Assessor in the Nursery. Delivery methods for the Diploma can include - Face to face and Blended on line learning. Assessment Methods should include -assignments, professional discussions, observations, work products and self-reflection activities.

If you do not already have a full level 3 qualification, this course is funded. If you do already have a full level 3 qualification, there are fees attached. This will be dependent on your personal circumstances and will be discussed at enrolment. You will need access to a home computer or laptop and a reliable internet source.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

By the end of this course you will have demonstrated and gained the skills and knowledge for the Early Years Workforce. You will have the knowledge and skills required to work directly with Early Years children.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

This qualification can lead to progression on to a Degree in Early Years or into employment.
