What is the course about?
This Level 3 Diploma in Hair and Media Make up is a comprehensive course that has been specifically designed to develop your practical Media Make-up and Hair skills to be a professional Makeup Artist for all the mediums of still and moving camera work, internet, commercials, performance, and stage.You will learn how to and dress hair, apply prosthetics, create bruising and minor injuries, create character and makeup looks. You will have an understanding of lighting and camera work and have the experience of presenting your work for the end of year show and other projects through the college. You will know how to conduct yourself in a professional, safe, and ethical manner as befits the trade.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a Level 3 course. We will require you to have a Level 2 in Make up or a portfolio of work showing experience in industry You should also have Level 2 Functional Skill English ( Or GCSE) and good IT skillsYou will be expected to attend a pre-enrolment interview or assessmentYou must also be able to attend 100% to each class and from 9.30 – 4.30
What topics does the course cover?
In this course you will learn how to design Face and Body Art, Creative Hair Design, how to Apply Airbrush Make up, Character make-up including aging, Special Effects Make-up to include casualty, Fashion and Photographic Make-up, Prosthetic pieces, Bald Caps, Camouflage Make up and how to monitor Health and Safety. You will also learn how to and apply wigs and facial hair and take part in a Fashion, Hair and Make-up show as part of your qualificationHealth and Safety and Risk Assessment is a key unit in this qualification
How will I be taught and assessed?
The course will be taught through a blend of practical work, demonstrations and theory classes delivered on site in class and online. You will build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed in order to demonstrate your competence and gain your qualification. You will need access to reliable internet and the use of a PC or laptop in order to attend the online sessions. You will have an electronic portfolio and will be expected to work on it each week so you must have good IT skills. There is a Learning Center with Digital Ambassadors to support you but you will be given weekly tasks that require you to be able confidently access and use a computer
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
You will be expected to provide your own kit of make-up brushes. Make up products and hair products are provided.Your teacher will advise you on where to buy your brushes, in the first sessionThere is a uniform and you will be expected to wear black clothes and flat black shoes.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
You will be able to and dress hair and wigs, apply prosthetics, create bruising and minor injuries, create a variety of character and makeup looks. You will be able to create body art and Air brush designs and Photographic Make-upYou will have an understanding of lighting and camera work and have the experience of presenting for the end of year show and other projects through the college.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Upon successful completion of this course, you can broaden or specialise your skills with one of our Hairdressing courses or progress to a Level 4 HNC and BA Hons in Makeup Artistry.You may wish to begin working as a freelancer and you will be given support through our Careers Department, to build your CV.
