What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a level 3 course. You will need to have gained your Level 2 teaching assistant qualification, and you will need to have achieved English Level 2 or equivilant.
What topics does the course cover?
In this course you will learn about Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults, Schools as organisations, Support learning activities, Promote children and young people’s positive behaviour, Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults, Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people, Support assessment for learning, Engage in personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings, Support children and young people’s health and safety, Understand child and young person development, Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people plus some specialist topics.
How will I be taught and assessed?
This course is a blended learning course and will be delivered both on site and on line, learners will also need to secure a work placement in a school where they will be observed carrying out their duties by their Assessor. Assessment is done by learners completing a portfolio of evidence.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
There are no additional costs. Learners will need access to a PC or laptop and reliable internet connection for the on line learning classes. Learners will also need to go through a DBS check before starting their work experience placement.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the course you will be able to support children in a school environment with specific needs depending on the specific additional units you undertake.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
This qualification provides the recognition to lead to a supervisory or leadership role within a teaching assistant team. Individuals could progress onto specialist roles such as Supporting gifted and talented learners, Team leadership, Bilingual support, Invigilation and or Special Educational Needs support.
