What is the course about?
This course will provide learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding of web design, to work in a web design team, as a freelance web designer or seek an opportunity for relevant employment.
You will improve your creative and technical skills to create or update a website using Wordpress and Photoshop and also learn how to upload sites using FTP.
Please note: This course is on Mondays, 09.30-16.30, and Wednesdays 13.30-20.30.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
Learners should have good computer skills, and be confident using the internet. You will have successfully completed a Level 1 Web Design course, or a Level 2 graphic design course, or show your ability with evidence that demonstrates your potential to succeed on this course.
What topics does the course cover?
- The roles and responsibilities that can be found within a web design team
- How to create a web page using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)
- Using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to format text and understand colours and backgrounds
- Understanding the fundamentals of web images and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)
WAES offers access to highly resourced and new learning centre with our recently updated iMac design suite. We include access to over 100 FREE employment and progression talks ranging from CV writing, interview skills, using social media to university applications and study skills.
How will I be taught and assessed?
The course will be blended learning with a combination of face-to-face studio practical skills, some online learning, plus directed study time. The tutor will guide you through class exercises and a set project. There is no formal examination. You will be assessed on the work you produce for your projects and your course work which you must hand-in on time.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
The Adobe Suite and MICROSOFT OFFICE including TEAMS are available to you FREE while you remain on the course. You must have a suitable computer to run the Adobe Suite and to complete the online content of the course at home. You must be able to download, install and work via Microsoft TEAMS. You will need a notebook or sketchbook and pen and a USB stick to take your digital work home.
Other costs include an investment in your time to complete self-directed study outside of the tutor led activities, around 8-10 hours per week.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?
Upon achievement of this qualification learners could progress to Level 2 UAL Diploma in Creative Media Production, or Level 3 UAL Diploma in Graphic Design at WAES, starting in September, or use this qualification for a variety of roles and/or careers such as a web designer, or front-end developer.
