What is the course about?
The qualification has been designed to support the development needs of individuals working in a role supporting children and young people in schools at a higher level.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?
This is a level 4 course. You will need to have gained your Level 3 teaching assistant qualification and be working in a school as a TA or LSA. You will need to have achieved English Level 2 or equivilant.
What topics does the course cover?
You will cover five mandatory topics in this qualification- Enabling individuals to learn Understand how to support children and young people to improve their mental health and well-being Working with others to support individuals with additional needs and disability in a school or college Working with families and other professionals in a school or college setting Implementing change in school or college setting.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will be taught through a blended learning approach where some classes will be on site and some online. You will need access to internet, laptop/desktop from home. We will provide guidance and training on how to use Microsoft TEAMS for online learning. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include, direct observation by a competent assessor within the workplace, written assignments and professional discussion in line with the Assessment of Learning provided for each unit. You will need to be employed at a Level 3 role in a learning environment (school or college), as you need to show competence in both skills and knowledge in order to achieve this qualification.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
There are no additional costs. Learners will need access to a PC or laptop and reliable internet connection for the on line learning classes. This course will be fully funded if you are unemployed or earn below £23,302.50 per year.
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
By the end of the course you may choose to continue working in a learning environment as an advance practitioner or pursue higher education at a university.
What are the progression opportunities following this course?
You can progress within the workforce in the following job roles and responsibilities: • Higher Level Practitioner/Teaching Assistant • internal progression at a higher level, including those with management responsibilities • leadership, mentoring, supervision and management opportunities. This qualification may be used alongside other qualifications to progress onto higher education.
