What is the course about?

This course is for learners who work in, or who want to work in a supporting role in office administration. It is suitable for learners who have little or no previous experience of the sector, including those returning to work. The course covers beginners ICT and Employability skills too and is a very practical course.

What level is the course and do I require particular skills, experience or prior qualifications?

Entry 3 qualification in English is the minimum requirement, or assessment results and College interview. You will be expected to have some prior knowledge of a computer and how to operate it too.

What topics does the course cover?

You will gain the skills needed to work as a junior administrator for the office environment. The Certificate covers various aspects of administration including creating business documents, welcoming visitors, and supporting business meetings. You will also look at job opportunities in administration.

How will I be taught and assessed?

You will be required to attend college once per week, and you will be participating in class and small group discussions focussing on particular aspects of the administrator’s role. Assessment is through coursework by way of assignments that build up to the certificate; IT skills will be developed in all the assignment work. To support the development of the skills needed by today’s employers, you will also study basic English.

Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?

You need to provide your own folder and folder divider, pens and marker pens and plastic envelopes.

By the end of the course what should I be able to do?

On successful completion of this course you will gain a BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Business Administration and an additional qualification from City & Guilds in ICT at Entry 3.

What are the progression opportunities following this course?

You can progress onto the Business Administration for Professionals Level 2 Certificate (provided you meet the entry requirements).You could also pursue a career in the Business and Retail sector.
